The EU's ambassador to Ghana has reportedly spoken of the need for the African nation to improve its sanitary inspections and the quality of vegetables it exports.

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) reports that William Hannah said that vegetable production is not up to the standard it needs to be, and allegedly called for urgent action to be taken to reverse the trend.

According to GBC, Hannah argued that if nothing is done, Ghana might face "dire consequences" from the European market which imports its produce.

Hannah was speaking at a trade and quality meeting in the capital city of Ghana, Accra.
