A man and a woman have been rescued from a potato harvester after becoming trapped.

A spokesperson for the East of England Air Ambulance service said a man in his 50s was flown to Broomfield Hospital in Essex with “serious leg injuries” that were not life-threatening.

The incident took place on Potash Farm, in Holbrook, near Ipswich.

“Working alongside fire service teams who freed the patient, crews gave emergency treatment at the scene after the man had suffered a serious leg injury and suspected fracture, which thankfully isn’t thought to be life-threatening,” the spokesperson added.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service group commander, Dave Collins, who also attended the scene on Friday (3 July), said the woman was uninjured.

Crews had to remove the roof of the machinery to gain better access to the victims. It is not yet known how they became trapped.

The Health and Safety Executive is looking into the incident.
