Gusbourne is a premium sparkling English wine producer

Premium sparkling wine producer Gusbourne has been awarded English Wine Producer of the Year at the prestigious annual International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC).

Kent-based Gusbourne said it was “honoured” and “proud” to have won the award, and said it is another highlight in an extraordinary year. Alongside the IWSC trophy, the company has won seven gold medals this year at a variety of international competitions.

Producing sparkling wine from 61 hectares in Kent and 32 ha in West Sussex, Gusbourne grows classic Champagne grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

Chief executive Ben Walgate said: “Receiving this trophy is a very proud moment for the Gusbourne team and is yet another highlight in what has been an extraordinary year for us.

“Our wines are terroir-driven, understated and with a minerality and saline character that sets them apart. For us it is the detail that matters; from the meticulous pressing of our fruit, through the blending process, to post disgorgement ageing.”

The awards ceremony took place at London’s Guildhall last Friday (27 November).

It comes as Gusbourne reported a strong grape harvest for the 2015 season.
