Potts: Our customers want lower prices

Morrisons has slashed the price of over 1,000 items including several fruit and vegetables as part of its first ‘Price Crunch’ campaign of 2016.

Price cuts include reducing 335g broccoli from 50p to 38p, a three pack of peppers from £1 to 86p, 1kg of onions from 80p to 56p and a 400g punnet of plums from £1 to 74p. Finally, a six pack of salad tomatoes has gone from 76p to 58p.

Morrisons said it will “use its food manufacturing business to keep prices down”.As part of a rolling programme of lower prices, the Price Crunch initiative will typically last a minimum of three months for each item.

Chief executive David Potts said: “We are cutting the prices of products that customers will welcome being cheaper at Morrisons and we are cutting every penny we can.

“We continue to listen carefully to customers and they have told us they want lower prices, particularly on fresh food and everyday essentials. As we improve our customers’ shopping trip we are becoming more competitive with our own distinct set of prices.”

Lower prices will be advertised to customers through external and in-store advertising.
