Figure includes 150,000 tonnes of exports to non-Spanish markets

Carrefour said it plans to sell 400,000 tonnes of Spanish fruit and vegetables in it stores this year, an increase of 4 per cent on last year, as it seeks to consolidate its position as a driving force in Spain’s agri-food sector.
More than 250,000 tonnes are sold in the Spanish market, while the remaining 150,000 tonnes will be exported, bringing the produce from the Valencian Community, Andalusia, Murcia, and Catalonia to markets such as France, Romania, Belgium, and Poland.
Currently, 90 per cent of the fresh produce sold by the retailer in Spain comes from Spanish farms. It has a network of 300 suppliers spread throughout the country, having added 40 new producers in the last year.
The company also maintains agreements with small farmers who supply directly to the stores closest to their farms. In this regard, Carrefour said it has become a leader in the sale of locally sourced tomatoes thanks to more than 40 agreements with local producers, allowing it to sell tomatoes harvested in less than 24 hours.
