Liz Truss NFU 16

Truss was speaking to delegates drawn from across the food industry

Environment secretary Liz Truss has urged the key stakeholders in the UK's food industry to work together for the cause of 'Brand Britain'.

Truss, speaking at the NFU, AHDB and Love British Food-organised Celebrate Great British Food in London this morning (27 April), told delegates that on her recent travels to China and the US, she was struck by the amount of value consumers in those countries place on seeing the British flag on food items.

She told those gathered that we need to increase the number of British consumers who feel this way about food produced on these shores, helped by including the Union Jack on more products. Truss noted that the government is currently working with the Ministry of Defence to 'get this message across' on procurement for military food supplies.

She finished with the rallying cry: 'Together we are stronger than the sum of our parts.'
