Scottish veg grower Stirfesh has signed a six-figure deal to supply five new products for the discounter’s Oaklands Ready-to-Cook range in Scotland.

The new £300,000 contract will allow the company to invest £1 million in new equipment, storage and solar panels, and further promote Scottish produce.

Lidl said the new products, which include Stirfresh’s Fresh Soup Mix and Fresh Vegetable Medley, will boost its portfolio of Scottish products. The products will be stocked in all 92 of its stores in Scotland.

Head of buying for Lidl in Scotland, Paul McQuade, said: “Stirfresh grow great quality, fresh produce on its farm in Angus. Scotland will be the first Lidl region in the UK to launch our new Oaklands Ready to Cook prepared vegetables range, which will offer our customers quick, easy and affordable ways to make healthy meal choices. We continue to be committed to sourcing as much Scottish produce as possible.”

The retailer has been adding to its Scottish supplier base over the last six months, and said it will continue to grow relationships with existing suppliers and cultivate new ones to further develop its range of Scottish-sourced lines.

Based in Montrose, Stirfresh is run by husband and wife team Andrew and Anita Stirling. Andrew Stirling said: “We are a family-run business. Together with my wife Anita, children Jessica, Alexander, Hannah, and James, we hope that this will be the start of a long-term relationship with Lidl for many years to come. Our aim is to promote Scottish produce as much as we can and, thanks to this deal, we are able to invest £1m in equipment, storage and solar panels.”
