LaManna Premier Group’s (LPG) Fresh Start: Women in Produce event attracted over 130 attendees at the Melbourne Wholesale Fruit, Vegetable and Flower market in Epping on 10 March 2021.

The event helped to promote diversity within the produce industry, while building on women in leadership and attracting new and diverse talent.

Attendees heard from key guest speakers, learning their views on diversity, supporting women in horticulture, and working together to promote the dynamic industry.

Guest speakers included, Craig Taylor, general manager, fresh produce, Coles; Catherine Velisha, managing director, Velisha farms; Jo Minton-Connell, director PMA and chief people and communications officer, LaManna Premier Group and Monica Bratuti, president, international trading, Turners International marketing.

The event was supported by the Melbourne Market Authority, Fresh State, and PMA A-NZ, along with many other major sponsors.

LPG have held International Women’s Day events over the past three years, with a collection of female employees gathered to celebrate women’s progress and achievements in the workplace.

Mark Maskiell, chief executive of the Melbourne Market Authority, said the markets were “proud to support this celebration of women in produce.”

“Listening to the stories and accomplishments of today’s female guest speakers demonstrates that having more women in leadership positions in fresh produce will propel the industry to new heights,” added Maskiell.
