Chilean fruit processing and packaging company Crisanto has harnessed the power of Reemoon’s latest artificial intelligence-powered apple defect sorting system.

General manager Andres Montoya said the company recently acquired a two-lane Reemoon apple grader with a Fruscan S7 defect selector, which started processing at the beginning of March 2023.

“Apple selling is a tight-margin business. In this scenario, Reemoon has understood that by adding excellent service and cutting-edge technology to its attractive prices, it becomes the ideal candidate to invest in its technology,” explained Montoya.

Crisanto, like much of the apple industry, has seen how the market has narrowed its margins forcing companies into a strategic choice between renewing abruptly or waiting for an eventual rebound in the market. Crisanto opted for the first option.

The company originally purchased a Reemoon sorting machine with weight and colour sorting functions in 2022. After learning Reemoon had made a breakthrough in sorting apple defects, Crisanto upgraded to try the new capability out. Finally, the company installed a line with artificial intelligence defect sorting and Montoya said the results were excellent.

“It was hard for me to believe that the machine was so clever in selecting apples with defects, it’s amazing. Blemish sorting wasn’t my first choice at first, mainly due to financial constraints, but Reemoon’s prices are fair. Now I have a hard time imagining how bad it is to process apples without the help of a defect sorter,” said Montoya.

Reemoon’s Fruscan S7 system is powered by artificial intelligence, which is delivering great satisfaction at national and international levels.

“Competition is good for the economic system, and Reemoon, is the leader of China’s fruit and vegetable sorting technology, and also occupies a leading position in the field of fruit and vegetable artificial intelligence sorting,”  said Vincent Zhang, Reemoon’s regional manager for Latin America.

“It is said that China will predominate in sectors such as artificial intelligence, we do not know when this will happen, but we are sure that we will work and strive every day to be better and thus be an honest alternative for current and new customers.”

Four years ago, Lumeng did not have a single device in the Americas. Now it has entered the US, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Colombia and more with plans to reach more international markets soon.
