Japanese-based retailer Aeon has announced it plans to open another three shopping centres in Malaysia, bringing the company’s total in the country to 29.
One of these will be opened in Melaka Sentral, while the following two stores have yet to fix locations, reported The Star.
Managing director Nagahisa Oyama made the announcement at the opening of Aeon’s 26th Malaysian store in Bukit Indah on Tuesday.
“We always believe that there are opportunities to expand even during a recession and we will emerge even stronger when the economy turns around,” he said.
The new Bukit Indah store is one of the country’s first to feature an eco-friendly building design. It features rooftop solar panels, low-level lighting and anti-frosting heaters which reduce power consumption by up to 66 per cent.
“All our new shopping centres will incorporate the eco-friendly concept and will continue with our tradition of tree-planting ceremonies,” said Mr Oyama.
