ABP expects growth

Associated British Ports, which operates some of the UK's busiest fresh produce terminals, has issued its trading statement for the six months ending June 30. Underlying operating profit from the UK ports and transport activities for this period is expected to show growth of at least three per cent compared to the first half of 2002. This has been supported by new contracts, secured in the last three years.

Throughout the first six months of 2003 the UK ports business has continued to develop and has added revenue-related investments including a 15-year agreement with Brittany Ferries to invest £4.3 million to enhance the ferry terminal facilities at the Port of Plymouth. A £2 million investment in the Port of Grimsby & Immingham, backed by a 10-year agreement with Sea-Cargo AS will create additional space and expansion.

Southampton Container Terminal and Tilbury Container Services have continued to experience increased container throughput this year.
