Agrexco workers protest

Some 300 Agrexco employees have holed themselves up inside the beleaguered exporter’s Tel Aviv headquarters, according to Israeli press reports.

Israeli daily Haaretz reported that the workers were protesting against a decision by court-appointed trustee manager Shlomo Nass that 200 workers must go on unpaid leave or lose their jobs.

Union bosses are reported in the paper to be concerned that if they lose their jobs they will not receive redundancy payouts.

Meanwhile, the same newspaper reported that growers’ organisations told Nass they would continue to let Agrexco market their produce and would co-operate with the company during the stay of proceedings.

They said they would also co-operate with any buyer for Agrexco.
