Dutch grocery group Ahold has announced it plans to tighten its internal accounting controls in the wake of the financial scandal that rocked the company last year.

Hannu Ryöpphönen, chief financial officer, said that the overhaul of internal finance functions reflected the need to ensure reliable and transparent reporting and underlined improvements to the company’s control environment.

Brian Hotarek, chief financial officer, for Ahold’s US retail operations, has been appointed chief business controlling officer will overall responsibility for a new role - business control for retail that will support and challenge the plans and performance of the company’s retail division.

Ahold, the world’s third largest food retailer by sales, is due to report full-year results on Monday.
