Tessa Bunney was named 2014 Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year at the Mall Galleries in London last night (23 April).
The title went to the Yorkshire-based photographer for her entry into the Food in Action category which captures noodle making in Lao PDR.
A judging panel chaired by journalist Jay Rayner was said to be particularly struck by the beautiful composition, the expression of utter absorption on the subject’s face and the movement of dough as it flies through the air.
He explained: “The increase in the number of entries into the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year competition speaks for itself. We are increasingly visual where our food is concerned. Technology keeps moving forward but appetite is a constant. And what this year’s images represented was the kind of appetite that makes a hungry man like me happy. Our winners are all literally an aid to the digestion.”
Over 6,000 entries were received this year, double the amount in 2011.
Andy Macdonald, managing director of Coregeo, master licensor of Pink Lady apples in the UK, said: “It is a delight to see the awards go from strength to strength. It is a pleasure to be involved with such a prolific international cultural event that celebrates and rewards such high standards of a growing art form – food photography.”
The competition opens again in June 2014 for entries into the 2015 awards.
