Prince de Bretagne’s cauliflower volumes to the UK market have remained stable this year, according to product manager Eléonore Faucher.

The main production areas were only lightly hit by the heavy snow and extreme weather conditions of December and January, and the firm is hopeful that volumes will go up as temperatures increase.

The Brittany salad and vegetable specialist has also diversified its tomato range and was introducing several new varieties and packaging concepts at Fruit Logistica.

Some 130 tomato growers operating on 200 hectares of production across Brittany supply the company.

Marie Dérédec, product manager for tomatoes, told freshinfo: “Every two to three years we develop the range. This year we are presenting a 12kg carton as opposed to 10kg, as this allows us to economise logistically.”

The firm is in constant contact with seed companies and trials around 50 new tomato varieties a year at its experimental centres.

Another new Prince de Bretagne addition at Fruit Logistica was a 500g pack of three snacking vegetables, comprising carrots, tomatoes and cauliflower, to be made available across all the company’s major markets.
