Deal comes following retirement of Sunnyfield founder Ronny Liu
Canim Fruit & Veg has taken over fellow New Spitalfields Market trader Sunnyfield Veg following the retirement of Sunnyfield owner Ronny Liu.
Canim offically took over the management of Sunnyfield on 11 August, following the retirement of Liu three days earlier.
Liu said: “Canim brings with them a wealth of industry experience and an excellent reputation. They will be reaching out to all our customers shortly to introduce themselves and to assist with any queries or ongoing matters.
“We would like to take this opportunity to assure you that the same high standard of service will continue, and we remain committed to the quality and professionalism that you have come to expect from us.”
The majority of Sunnyfield’s staff will remain in place and continue in their roles, Liu stressed, meaning minimal disruption to daily operations.
Sunnyfield was founded by Liu in 1995 and is a leading trader of Chinese fruit and veg, as well as Thai herbs and spices and other products from across the world.
Canim is a family-run fruit and vegetable wholesaler and distributor that delivers a wide selection of fresh produce to a range of clients across the foodservice, catering and public sectors.
Liu, 65, described the decision to retire as “both a bittersweet and proud moment to step away from a career that has brought me so much joy, growth, and purpose.”
He added: “I want to express my sincere gratitude for the support, friendship, and collaboration I’ve received over the years. It has been a true privilege to work with such dedicated colleagues and to connect with so many remarkable people along the way. Together, we’ve faced challenges, celebrated milestones, and created unforgettable memories.
“To all my colleagues, mentors, partners, and friends – thank you for making this chapter of my life so meaningful. I am deeply grateful for everything we’ve shared on this incredible journey.”
