There was good news for the catering industry in the latest overseas visitor figures published last week.

Visits by overseas residents’ to the UK were up by 19 per cent year-on-year in the three months to April, according to the seasonally adjusted results from the International Passenger Service.

The number of visits in the quarter increased three per cent to 6.9 million, compared with the previous three months. Meanwhile, UK residents’ visits abroad fell by four per cent to 15.3m in the quarter and one per cent year-on-year.

On the expenditure front, total spending by overseas visitors decreased by four per cent and spending by UK residents overseas decreased by the same amount.
