Chiquita goes back to school

Chiquita unveiled a rainforest mural at St John's Primary School in Manchester, designed by one of the school's pupils Xenia Brown.

Brown had her rainforest picture reproduced as a mural after winning a painting competition, part of Chiquita's Who Cares? About the Rainforest and its Animals campaign.

Niamh O'Donnell, marketing manager for Chiquita bananas described the idea behind the project: “Chiquita has joined the Rainforest Alliance's Better Banana Project, an international standard for environmental protection and for worker health and safety on our banana farms. We want to help inform children about the importance of looking after the environment as well as teaching them about the wonders of the rainforest itself."

Luke Dillon, head teacher at St John's School added: “We were very excited to hear that Xenia had won the competition. The mural looks really fantastic and brightens up the playground. The Chiquita Who Cares? programme as a whole has really helped to capture the imagination of the pupils as well as educating them on a very important environmental issue."
