The NFU negotiated a discount for horticulture and some other sectors of farming on the government's levy that was introduced to help lower greenhouse gas emission. Horticulture growers qualify for a discount if they meet energy reducing targets.

Under the scheme, members can make significant saving through a reduction in the levy on top of their savings achieved by being more energy efficient.

Horticulture growers can get a 50 per cent levy reduction, up to £6,000 for some businesses, but face missing out if renewal papers are not returned by November 30.
