The vice-president of Colombia, Francisco Santos, has approved a government budget to set up a laboratory in Bogotá to provide guaranteed screening methods for pesticides in fresh produce.
Juan Salazar, head of Colombian export office Proexport in the UK, told FPJ: “This project is the result of on-going work by Proexport Colombia which has focused on increasing awareness among Colombian growers of the need to export products which comply with European laws on pesticide residues, as well as EurepGAP and ethical standards.
“The Colombian government is liaising with EurepGAP and EU governments in order to make the most accurate choices and establish the most suitable type of laboratory for our exporters,” he said.
