Agricultural exports from Costa Rica rose by 11.7 per cent in the first two months of this year, according to Costa Rican agency Procomer.

Figures for the agricultural sector in January and February revealed that the value of sendings rose to US$327.6 million (£165.7m), 23.2 per cent of the country’s total exports.

Bananas remained the leading product, representing $111.2m, 14.3 per cent higher than the year-earlier period. Pineapples were second, at $66.7m, 13.4 per cent higher than 2006. Coffee was the third most important agricultural export.
