Flower figures blossom

The Flower Council of Holland's advertising campaign for fresh flowers has come to an end. The four-week campaign featured the 30-second Why Wait, Buy You Own? commercial, unveiled in last year's poster and TV campaign in the Yorkshire and Granada regions.

Commenting on feedback from the campaign spokesperson Colleen Smith said: "It's too early for consumer research to give us feedback on sales but from September when the adverts started running, we received 20,000 visitors to the website - which featured the advert - that's an increase of more than 50 per cent on our usual figures."

"This is the first truly national TV campaign the industry has seen - if not ever, then for a very long time - to persuade the public to buy flowers," said the Council's Marcel Jansen.

"The Flower Council of Holland has spent £300,000 to specifically encourage women to buy flowers for themselves - it is potentially a major boost for business and will work even better if the whole trade gets behind the campaign."

"Overall we are trying to promote flowers as a regular purchase, and not just for special occasions, gifts or emotional reasons. The message is very simple - get out there and get yourself some flowers.”
