A Flintshire grower is already reaping the benefits of the Welsh food co-operative initiative.

Alan Huson is owner of Huson’s Farm Produce, which is based on a 14-acre mixed farm in Hawarden.

The farm is run on ‘old fashioned’ principles with minimum use of pesticides. Huson says he first supplied the food co-ops early in 2005 and has not looked back. He now supplies 28 throughout North Wales.

“Supplying in bulk direct to individual food co-ops cuts out the middleman, so that we all feel the financial benefits. The feedback is very satisfying. I believe that the food co-op volunteers and customers like to deal direct with a grower too.

“The food co-ops now represent 50 percent of our business. We plan our planting according to their demand. We have now developed expansion plans and hope to supply them with more of our own grown produce in the future
