The food production and new trade agenda conference will be held at London's Chatham House on May 19-20.

The conference will consider how international trade could be reformed to meet demands ranging from the needs of developing countries to the desire of affluent consumers.

NFU president Ben Gill who will open the event believes those producing the planet's food will be doing so in a different trade environment. He said: 'Reforms to Europe's Common Agricultural Policy and the outcome of the World Trade Organisation negotiations will dramatically alter how agricultural products are traded.' Other speakers include senior officials from the European Commission and various national governments as well as agricultural ministers from Canada and Uganda.

Speakers from the private sector will form a significant part of the agenda with representation from food retailers and both social and environmental experts.
