Fresh Pod links up with government

Fresh Pod has teamed up with the Scottish government’s Go Greener campaign to promote the reduction of food waste at home, in businesses and in schools.

The Norwich-based firm is committed to reducing the UK’s environmental impact with its product, which extends the life of fruit and vegetables in the fridge or the fruit bowl by up to four times using a safe and natural process.

The pod works by absorbing ethylene gas, which causes fresh produce to age and ripen.

The campaign aims to encourage Scots to make a series of small changes to their everyday lives in order to reduce their effect on global warming.

This involves taking 10 steps to tackle climate change, including reducing and recycling household waste and purchasing more seasonal, un-packaged products.

Fresh Pod is keen to share this message, as placing a pod in a fridge and fruit bowl is another small but effective change with positive environmental and economic results.

The reduction of food waste is important at a time when an average household throws away between £15,000 and £24,000 worth of food in a lifetime, two-thirds of which is estimated to be fruit and vegetables.

More than 100 people have already pledged to take the steps towards following a greener lifestyle.
