The fourth version of the GlobalGAP Standard will be launched at the GlobalGAP Summit to be held in London in October.

Final preparations are underway for the revision and all Sector Committees will finalise the standard during their meetings this month and next. The drafts will then be available for field trials to confirm applicability and auditability before launching the new standard.

Guidelines for smallholders were launched in Berlin last week and are now available on the GlobalGAP website. The Africa Observer project was started in 2007 to provide more opportunities for smallholder representation in the GlobalGAP standard-setting process. In 2009, the GlobalGAP smallholder project developed practical tools and global best practice guidelines to facilitate implementation of the standard by smallholders worldwide. A formal working group has been established by the GlobalGAP Sector Committees and the first meeting took place last week.

Other GlobalGAP achievements for smallholders in the last year include setting up a National Technical Working Group (NTWG) in Kenya and training Ghanaian sector organisations on the establishment of NTWGs.

ChinaGAP has bow moved a step closer, as the first Chinese certification body, WIT-Assessment, has successfully completed the GlobalGAP approval procedure for certification bodies and can now issue certificates for ChinaGAP.
