The Herbfresh staff have taken to bicycles to get around

Harvesting crews at Thames Valley grower and packer Herbfresh have taken to two wheels to move from field to field.

With field harvesting of outdoor herb crops now in full swing, the herb supplier will see its staff using bicycles to get around the fields.

General manager Phil Armstrong said: “With increasing fuel costs for our minibuses and a shortage of qualified drivers, it makes economic sense as well as increasing our green credentials and keeping everyone fit.”

Sales and procurement manager Lucy Wiggins said: “With the increased use of crop cover and polytunnels, crops of coriander, flat and curly parsley, mint, dill, rosemary, thyme, chervil, chives, tarragon and sage, despite the cold spring, are all now on target to supplement imported herbs throughout the UK summer season.”

Armstrong has joined his staff and begun cycling the three miles to and from work each day.
