'We have had tremendous support from trade exhibitors and the livestock exhibitors in particular, who were somewhat concerned about Sunday opening which we introduced last year,' said Frances Day, the Kent Agricultural Society's chief executive. 'Particularly pleasing is the return in larger numbers of the cattle and sheep and the boost from the young farmers of Kent,' she added.

There is a strong emphasis on flowers and plants this year in the flower marquee with floral arrangement classes and four new display gardens, as well as hints for gardeners from BBC Radio Kent's export Doug Goodyer. There will also be a new class for the increasingly popular black cherry variety, Summer Sun, which can be seen in the NFU Cherry and Soft Fruit Show over the three days of the show at the Detling showground.
