Kent new potatoes have hit shelves in local Asda stores this week, for the third year running.

Shoppers at the Broadstairs store can expect to buy potatoes grown just three miles down the road, dug up earlier that day, hand-picked and delivered to store within 24 hours.

JP Ash has grown potatoes for more than 32 years at Haine Farm in Margate, in the Thanet district of Kent, and supplies Asda with loose new potatoes.

He said: “We hand-pick to ensure our customer receives a perfect, fresh, undamaged product, which we believe is the best way to handle an extremely delicate product. Our methods ensure that the product is always of superior quality.”

The spuds are easily identifiable in store, with Kent tray liners highlighting the regional produce.

Asda potato buyer Jenny Liggat said: “It’s really important for us to highlight this fantastic local offering, allowing us to sell the freshest, tastiest potatoes to our customers.”

The new potatoes are currently available in Asda’s Broadstairs, Canterbury and Ashford stores. The offer will roll out to all other Kent Asda stores by early July.
