MPS has introduced an MPS-ABC version of registration and certification for the fruit and vegetable sectors, called MPS Fruit and Vegetables.

The leading company for registration, certification and innovations in the ornamental plant cultivation sector has transferred its skills to the fruit and vegetable market in order to answer calls for a system that establishes a connection between sustainable production and food safety.

The certification scheme has been specifically developed for growers of edible flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables. The scheme is designed to register crop protection agents, fertilisers, energy and waste, and includes aspects such as on-day registrations, residue analysis, results of third-party audits and monitoring.

Discussions with international retailers, traders and growers revealed a need for a system that offers more than registration and certification alone.

Fruit and vegetable growers are currently participating in pilot groups that will perfect the MPS Fruit and Vegetables scheme. The pilot groups will be disbanded in spring 2009 and the scheme will then be finalised.
