Parripak's state-of-the-art rapid chill store

Parripak Foods have built a state-of-the-art rapid chill store which houses humidity controlled rapid cooling intake fridges for root crops and brassicas.

The cooling plant includes a quality control office and weighbridge and is capable of rapid chilling of more than 200 tonnes of product at a time.

The company’s joint managing director James Parrish explained the reasons behind the investment. He said: “During the past three years we have seen customer demand for traditional root crops and exotics, including ginger, garlic and chillies, increase steadily.

“We are now averaging 500t of finished product a week and at the beginning of January 2004 and at the beginning of January 2004 we hit a record of 600t a week. Naturally our first priority was to ensure the continued perfection of our finished product. We have achieved this with the new cooling plant which is part of a two-year, £1 million investment programme. This has been part-funded by a European/Defra funded processing and marketing grant.”
