The 2001 Californian almond crop is forecast to reach a record high, with output expected to rise 24 above last year's level. This follows favourable weather, higher yields and a five per cent rise in bearing acreage, currently put at 525,000. Better prospects are in spite of low temperatures and rain during blossoming which adversely affected pollination of early varieties.
