Scientist Arpad Pusztai, who has claimed GM crops may damage human health, is due to release new findings this week supporting his warnings.

Pusztai will publish new research, which will warn that the work carried out by biotechnology companies regarding human health hazards from GM foods is inadequate and unsafe.

The scientist's study can be found in a book titled 'Food Safety'. In his section of the book he brings together all the scientific studies carried out into the safety of GM foods. Pusztai said: 'GM foods have never been publicly tested for their safety and wholesomeness. There is increasing research to show they actually may be very unsafe.' The research comes at a crucial time. This autumn the Royal Society is due to publish the results of the government-sponsored field trials of GM crops.
