Growers will be able to plant new late autumn cauliflower varieties from Seminis this summer in full commercial volumes.

Amiata has been developed for planting in mid-July for November maturity and can be followed up some four-to-five days later with plantings of Arica, formerly known as RX5278. “Both types are hybrids and have erect plants for ease of cutting and packing and very uniform, solid, smooth curds,” said Seminis’s Paul Lote.

Also going fully commercial later this year will be Seminis’s newest winter cauliflower range. The four new brassicas all have similar characteristics and their Cornish names Tintagel, Treknow, Trewint and Trenale - pay tribute to one of the UK’s principal growing areas.

“These four have deep, heavy, smooth curds and also what growers are always looking for in a cauliflower - an erect plant habit that is easy to cut and to pack,” explained Lote.
