Heavy rain in Spain has hit soft-fruit production and affected strawberry supplies set to come on stream in the next few weeks and raspberry volumes, which came onto the market last month.

Royal SAT sends half of its soft-fruit production to the UK, majoring on blueberry supplies from Morocco, as well as strawberries and raspberries from Huelva.

The Spanish firm was at Fruit Logistica to build on its UK presence and open up new markets.

Alexander Koch from Royal SAT said: “This season there have been some big problems and it has been difficult on strawberries, but we have had no problem supplying blueberries as we source them from Morocco.

“The UK is the biggest market for soft fruit and we are increasingly trying to introduce these lines across the continent.”

The firm showcased six different blueberries at the show, named Star 1-6.
