Following amazing sales of its Jubilee rose, Tesco has today handed a cheque for £20,000 to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust - its 2002 charity of the year.

The roses were selected to commemorate the Queen's golden jubilee last summer and sold exclusively at Tesco, which is donating £1 from each rose sold to the charity.

At a presentation held at Tesco's Sidcup branch, Theresa Iles from the Cystic Fibrosis Trust was handed the cheque by David May, Tesco's buying manager for plants.

May said: 'We are thrilled to be able to donate the entire £20,000 to such a worthwhile cause. The popularity of the Golden Jubilee rose surpassed all our expectations with thousands of customers rushing to snap them up for the few weeks they were on sale back in May.

'It was a great honour to be the only supermarket to sell the limited edition plant and we hope it is now providing a lasting memory of the jubilee for many of our customers'.

David Stickels, deputy chief executive of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust added: 'We would like to thank Tesco for this very successful campaign. With £15 million needed to help us find the cure for Cystic Fibrosis, this venture will take us another step towards the total'.
