Social enterprise Traidcraft is organising a seminar exploring purchasing practices in the Fresh Produce sector and its impact overseas. The event will be run in conjunction with the Fresh Produce Consortium.

It will bring together wholesalers, importers, handlers, distributors, food processing, food service caterers, distributors and retailers to discuss ways in which procurement practice can affect people in developing countries.

Confirmed speakers include Steve Homer of Flamingo and Chris Brown of Asda. It will be chaired by Nigel Jenney, chief executive of the Fresh Produce Consortium

There will be panel and workshop discussions on the new insights presented in the forthcoming publication ‘Fresh Perspective.’ The consultation report is based on recent research in developing countries with growers and exporters on the opportunities and challenges for the Fresh Vegetable sector, and is part of a series of reports produced by the Responsible Purchasing Initiative.

Participants will have the chance to share their experiences of global sourcing and explore areas where changes to purchasing practices are possible. The purpose of the event is to enable participants to explore ideas freely, share recommendations made by farmers and exporters based in developing countries and so help shape future debate on the area.

The event is being held at The Fishmongers’ Hall, London Bridge on 20 June.
