As part of its 80th anniversary celebrations, members of the West Sussex Growers’ Association will be holding open days where consumers will be able to get hands-on and find out how fresh produce and plants are grown.

The day, which will be held on September 23, will see opportunities for visitors to taste tomatoes, see herbs and chrysanthemums being grown, discover the origins of many garden plants, and watch compost being made.

The events will take place across more than 15 locations, and will also include a visit by special guest Chris Collins, Blue Peter’s gardener, who will appear at Roundstone Nurseries to give short talks about his life as a ‘green-fingered celebrity’. He will also appear at Yoder Toddinton in Old Lake Lane, Barnham.

Patrick Bastow, WSGA chairman, said: “Our growers can promise a stimulating day out for people of all ages - with lots to see, do and taste! This event helps local people reconnect with the origins of their food and find out more about the many flowering plants that brighten our everyday lives.”
