WOW! Microleaf was named New Sandwich Product of the Year Award at the ‘Sammies’ last week.
The range, which is the result of a partnership between Westland Nurseries and herb supplier HumberVHB, won the accolade at The British Sandwich Industry Awards 2009 on May 21.
The UK-grown product is made up of young versions of salad leaves and herbs that are specially selected for their flavour and visual impact.
The range is already used by some of the top Michelin-starred chefs in the UK.
The Sammies, run by the British Sandwich Association, aims to single out businesses and products that are driving the market forward.
Jo Basham from HumberVHB collected the award at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London. He said: “We are thrilled to have won this award, especially as the competition was so tough and our product is very new to the sandwich industry.
“WOW! Microleaf is a perfect ingredient for sandwiches and salads as they can be eaten whole with almost no preparation or waste.
“Over the next 12 months, we plan to continue to innovate with new and exciting microleaf varieties that will add significant value to our customers' products.”
