English Village Salads (EVS) and Asda celebrated Yorkshire Day in style on August 1, with in-store activity at six of the Yorkshire-based retailer’s stores in the county.
The Selby salad supplier ran the events to promote its wide range of locally grown salads and offered cress, cucumbers, four varieties of tomato and round and curly lettuce for sampling at its Bilton, Hessle, Morley, Kingswood, Bradford and Mount Pleasant, Hull stores.
Each year, EVS grows some 9.5 million heads of lettuce for Asda and further large volumes of tomatoes, cress and cucumbers.
Two of the stores in the Yorkshire region (Morley and Kingswood) also had a chef’s demonstration, highlighting the versatility of salad and showing shoppers how to prepare Piccolo cherry tomato and baby plum tart, and a tomato and cucumber smoothie.
Werner Neuhoff, Asda’s salad buyer, said customers at the store on Yorkshire Day were pleasantly surprised at how much salad produce is grown in their county. “Asda actively supports Yorkshire Day in all of its stores with various different events around the region,” said Neuhoff.
“Support from suppliers, such as EVS, is invaluable to try to communicate our wide range of locally grown salad.”
