Expert speakers to help growers with best practical advice as region recovers from severe weather
Avocados Australia has announced the details for its Central New South Wales Avocado Grower Regional Forum hosted on Thursday, 3 July.
The free event will be held at Stuarts Point Community Hall from 8.30am to 3.00pm followed by an orchard walk.
It has been a tough year so far for growers in the region given the severe weather events impacting some orchards. The Forum will support growers’ recovery efforts with technical guest speakers including Dr Harley Smith (CSIRO) who is speaking on flowering and fruit set, Dr Everard Edwards (CSIRO) on carbohydrates, and Dr John Wilkie (Wilkie Horticulture) on factors of yield variability and light interception.
A New South Wales Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development response support representative will be present to assist growers needing to access disaster assistance and support services.
“Technical content for the forum has been developed with direct input from Central New South Wales growers through the project’s dedicated regional lead, Isabella Ellmers,” said Bridie Carr, senior extension horticulturist at Department of Primary Industries, Queensland.
John Tyas, CEO of Avocados Australia, will be attending and presenting an Industry Update at the forum. He said all avocado growers should attend the event as it will provide useful information, advice and resources.
“Events like these provide growers with the chance to fact find and source the best information to help them improve their businesses,” said Tyas.
