Fresh produce safety event returns to Sydney on 21-22 July with two keynote speakers, Dr Elizabeth Bihn and D’Arcie Rice

The International Fresh Produce Safety Symposium 2026 (IFPSS26) has revealed that two international keynote speakers will headline this year’s event, which returns to Sydney on 21-22 July at the Novotel Sydney International Airport.
Dr Elizabeth Bihn, director of the Produce Safety Alliance at Cornell University, and D’Arcie Rice from the British Leafy Salads Association will lead a dynamic, solutions-focused two-day programme designed for growers, packers, researchers, regulators, food safety professionals and industry leaders committed to strengthening fresh produce safety across the supply chain.
Returning in 2026 is the IFPSS field trip, held on 20 July. The insightful trip is a chance to see food safety in action, providing additional learning and networking opportunities. Further details on the field trip will be released soon but spaces are limited with priority given to those who book two-day tickets.
Organised by the Fresh Produce Safety Centre (FPSC), IFPSS26 will tackle the theme of Evidence to Action, addressing the issues shaping produce safety today, from water quality and microbiological risk management to emerging technologies and evolving food safety risks.
Through case studies, industry insights and an interactive workshop, the programme is designed to move beyond theory and into real-world application. Attendees will leave with practical knowledge, fresh ideas and tools to improve fresh produce food safety practices.
Learn from Dr Bihn who is a senior extension associate in the Department of Food Science at Cornell University and director of both the Produce Safety Alliance and the National Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) Program in the US. Her work focuses on irrigation water quality and reducing microbial risks in fresh produce through practical research and collaborative education across the produce industry.
Rice is a technical manager with extensive experience in the fresh produce industry, specialising in balancing rigorous food safety standards with strong commercial acumen. With a strong focus on regulatory compliance, risk management, and product integrity, she works closely with a diverse range of stakeholders to ensure food safety from field to fork while supporting sustainable business growth.
Together, they will bring international insights, practical experience and forward-thinking perspectives that will challenge and inspire.
