The fresh fruit and vegetable industry continues to be a leader in packaging innovation, following strong representation at the 2026 Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) Awards.

Coordinated by the Australian Institute of Packaging, the PIDA awards are designed to recognise companies and individuals who are making a significant difference in their field across Australia and New Zealand. The awards programme is also the exclusive entry point into the WorldStar Packaging Awards for Australia and New Zealand.

There are ten packaging design award categories and a raft of fresh produce packaging designs have been selected as finalists.

Costa Group, Result Group and The Packaging Hippie were named finalists in three categories for their laser-etched avocados (Labelling and Decoration Design, Marketing Design and Sustainable Packaging Design).

Viscount was also selected as a finalist in two categories (Outside of the Box Design and Sustainable Packaging Design) for its Nally Folding MegaBin entry.

Fresh produce was well represented in the Food Packaging Design category, with Detpak selected for its auto punnet for tomatoes; Opal ANZ and Perfection Fresh for their mango multipack and Opal ANZ for its Arctic Shield EPS replacement.

Result Group and Australian Table Grapes were also recognised as finalists in the Outside of the Box Design for their scaling traceability entry.

Other Sustainable Packaging Design finalists included Costa Group, Opal and Woolworths for their cocktail truss tomatoes.

The winners will be announced during the 2026 Packaging Innovation & Design Awards Gala Dinner on 28 July.
