Bond will finish his time at the industry body in Q1 2027
New Zealand Kiwifruit Growers CEO Colin Bond has shared plans to resign from his role as head of the peak industry body.
Bond first joined NZKGI in May 2021 and will depart in the first quarter of 2027. A recruitment process has now begun for a new CEO to ensure a smooth and orderly transition,
In a weekly update to growers, Bond said it was a personal decision to move on and that now is the right time to hand over the reins to a new CEO.
“This has not been an easy decision. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at NZKGI and have been privileged to work alongside passionate growers, industry leaders, and a dedicated team who care deeply about the future of our industry,” Bond said.
“While I’ll have more to say closer to my departure, I know I’ll be leaving the organisation in good hands, with a highly motivated executive, forum, and staff team ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
NZKGI chair Whetu Rolleston said Bond had significantly increased the value the organisation delivers through its advocacy for New Zealand kiwifruit growers during his tenure.
“Under Colin’s leadership, NZKGI has become more focused on delivering measurable outcomes for growers. The retention of Hi-Cane, increases to the RSE cap, and the achievement of post-harvest transparency are just some examples of his impact. Many of these outcomes have delivered returns to growers that far exceed the levy invested, while recent developments in post-harvest transparency represent the culmination of more than a decade of advocacy by the organisation,” Rolleston said.
“Colin has also strengthened NZKGI’s relationships with both local and central government and enhanced the organisation’s reputation across the industry, reflected in the strong grower support received during the levy rounds he managed.
“Colin has positioned NZKGI well for the future, with strong foundations and strength in the organisation to continue to deliver to growers. We fully respect his decision and thank him for the outstanding contribution he has made to growers and the wider industry. Colin leaves with our gratitude, respect, and best wishes.”
