PMA ANZ Tech Innovation with UPL

PMA Australia-New Zealand (PMA A-NZ) and UPL have announced the five finalists for the PMA A-NZ Tech Innovation Award 2020, proudly sponsored by UPL.

In its inaugural year, the premier award for technology innovations in the Australasian fresh produce and floral industries attracted an impressive range of entries from all points of the value chain, with the judges having their work cut out to select the following finalists:

Disruptive Packaging for its Uniqcor product

Manbulloo’s Scott Ledger, for his innovative use of temperature monitoring and data platforms in mango supply chains

Mitch Pursehouse and the J-Tech Systems packaging team for their Flowfresh product

HarvestMark-Trimble (now iFood Decision Sciences) and Woolworths for their collaboration in reducing food waste

Batlow Fruit Company for its Happles product

Each entry was assessed on its unique features and use of sustainable design principles, how relevant it was to the Australian and New Zealand fresh produce and floral industries, its ability to satisfy existing or new needs, how well it was delivered within the industry, its short and long-term impacts to the industry and evidence of its success.

“We were astonished at the number of high-quality nominations we received for the PMA A-NZ Tech Innovation Award 2020, especially in its first year,” explained Hannah White, Technology and Innovation Manager of PMA A-NZ.

“The interest in the award is a testament to the fantastic innovations we’re seeing in the Australian and New Zealand fresh produce and floral industries and the desire to recognise and celebrate them.”

PMA A-NZ and UPL congratulated this year’s finalists and thanked all of the nominees for their impressive entries.

“It’s going to be tough to find the winner out of the remaining finalists,” added Ian Cass, marketing and business development manager, UPL Australia.

The five finalists will showcase their initiatives on 18 June (10am AEST) in the virtual Tech Innovation Award Showcase, details of which can be found on the PMA A-NZ website, here.

The winner of the 2020 PMA A-NZ Tech Innovation Award will be announced at the end of the showcase on 18 June.
