OzHarvest Market opened its doors on 19 April, offering Sydney-siders a pop up rescued food supermarket.
The first of its kind in Australia, OzHarvest Market stocks donated food that is perfectly edible, and allows customers to ‘take what you need, give what you can’.
On the group floor of the Toga and Qualitas-run Addison Project, which offers accomodation for vulnerable youth, OzHarvest Market will continue to operate as long as the site is available.
OzHarvest CEO and founder Ronni Kahn said the supermarket provides a new way of offering suprplus good being rescued by the charity to those in need.
“The OzHarvest Market is our latest innovation to tackle food waste and eliminate hunger. It supports OzHarvest’s purpose to nourish our country, by making sure good food does not go to waste and is available to everyone,' Kahn said.
OzHarvest operates across Australia’s capital cities and some regional communities, collecting excess produce from commercial businesses and delivering them to more than 900 charities.
