A drought and water shortage have damaged up to 70 per cent of Pakistan's lychee crop, with the Khanpur region bearing the brunt of the damage, reports tribune.com.pk.

Farmers, who were expecting a bumper harvest this season, have incurred considerable losses as a result, the article said.

One grower blamed the problem on Khanpur Dam authorities, accusing them of supplying farmers less water than normal for irrigation.

He said citrus orchards have also been badly affected by the short supply of water, exacerbated by a long spell of dry weather.

Local water authorities admitted they had limited water supplies to growers this year due to lower water table levels.
