Reports in india have revealed that around 3,048 hectares of banana plantations have been damaged by monsoon rains in the Tuticorin region of the country.

The Hindu said that assessments were still ongoing to understand the full extend of the damage to all crops in the northeast region.

The state government has already announced that it will make compensation available for crop damage suffered by growers of a range of products, including chillies and onions as well as bananas.
