A mango export target of 135,000 tonnes was announced at a seminar held by the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry last week, up from last year’s export of 124,000 tonnes.

Muhammad Alamgir Khan, deputy director of the Trade Development Authority, said an increase in export numbers would mean better returns to farmers, reports Fructidor.com.

“Last year huge foreign exchange had been earned by exporting 124,000 tonnes of fine quality mangoes,” Mr Khan said.

He hoped that figure would reach 300,000 tonnes within the next three to five years as a result of the government’s farmer-friendly policies.

Adoption of the latest post-harvest technology could also save large amounts of crop wastage, Mr Khan advised.
