Certification standards group GlobalGAP has invited stakeholders to comment on a new set of industry tools designed to assess the ethical sustainability of agricultural production.
The GlobalGAP Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP) module was initially developed between 2005 and 2007 by GlobalGAP, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), Coop Switzerland, Lidl, Migros, Metro and Edeka.
During the past two years, pilot projects involving interested parties across five continents have been rolled out in order to determine how GRASP should be implemented.
The resulting module of GRASP tools are will be placed under public review until 26 March 2010, and industry stakeholders will be able to make their comments at a dedicated website.
The GRASP Technical Committee is set to consider the comments it receives and publish its interim final tools in April 2010.
GRASP can only be implemented in countries where a National Interpretation Guideline exists.
These guidelines are developed in local stakeholder round tables and in cooperation with the GlobalGAP Secretariat.
